Alcatel Idol 4s Windows Variant Specs Review

Alcatel Idol 3 was one of the best mid-ranged devices from last year’s MWC. Alcatel made sure they stayed relevant in this year’s Mobile World Congress in Brazil with the announcement of their two latest Idol devices; the Idol 4 and Idol 4S.

The Alcatel Idol 4S is more like an upgrade from last year’s Idol 3 offering near flagship specifications for an excellent mid-range price. While the Idol 4 is more of the real mid-range junior brother. Both devices offer great design and specs for a reasonable price.

Now the Idol 4s was first released as an Android device, but Alcatel is now giving users an OS choice. So you have Android or Windows to choose from.

New Alcatel Idol 4S Windows 10 variant still sports the same design, build quality and materials from the Android powered version.  A couple of switch-ups such as a 5.5 QHD screen (the Android variant uses 5.2 QHD) have been made on the rebranded smartphone.

As we mentioned earlier, the device is powered by Windows 10 mobile OS and should be the perfect alternative for Microsoft users who are looking to buy outside the Lumia line of smartphones.

Did we mention that the initial Alcatel Idol 4S had a fantastic camera? Well, the camera on the Windows variant is ten times better, after all, if you are going to do something twice let the latter be impressive. We are looking a camera identical to the one found on the Blackberry DTEK60 and if you are wondering why then you probably do not know that Alcatel’s parent company TCL bought over Blackberry.

While the Android Idol 4S features an accomplished Snapdragon 652 with 3GB of RAM, Alcatel believes that this simply won’t be okay, and have added 1GB of RAM as well as changed the processor to a Snapdragon 820. 🙂

The device like the Android-powered version comes as a package with a dedicated VR box.

We see other features like Hi-Fi Audio, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, GPS, NFC, Radio from the Android version make a comeback with other small upgrades such as USB-C port (the Android Alcatel Idol 4S uses a regular USB port).

In our opinion, What if we buy this Windows-powered Alcatel Idol 4S and then flash an Android ROM onto it, no offence Microsoft.
