Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is the latest addition to the line of of its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphones. But Samsung is not quite ready to make this public.
All Active range of Galaxy phones was born out of necessity. It first appeared in 2013 as a waterproof and ruggedized version of the company’s then-flagship Galaxy S4. Each iteration of the “S” line since has been accompanied by an Active variant.
Major difference between this Active variant and its flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is that it comes in a shock resistance, a ruggedized rubber case and stunning body that also promises dust resistance and can also withstand staying water for some couple of minutes.
Another feature differenciating the Active models from the regular models is the hardware buttons: the Active range has traditionally had 3 hard buttons below its screen, rather than 1 hard and 2 capacitive buttons.
Serial leaker Evan Blass, who is often among the first people to obtain images of upcoming smartphones, says Samsung’s device is currently codenamed Poseidon and will come with even more liquid-resistance than the Galaxy S7 line, which is rated quite highly on that metric.
The ruggedized smartphone parades a premium design and has a stunning 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels that ensure billiant viewing experience.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active battery capacity will be another selling point, previous Active model Galaxy S6 Active had a 3,500mAh battery while the regular S6 models had just 2,800mAh. It seems Samsung will offer longer battery life with the S7 Active.
Many people beleive that Samsung will be holding back on this flagship device and will wait for the launch of Android 6.1 Marshmallow. As an operating system, due in June 2016, Android 6.1 will bring with it much anticipated split screen technology and improved app permissions.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor or a Samsung Exynos 8 Octa-core processor that runs at a speed of up to 2.15GHz and paired with a 4GB of RAM for great performance. It has 32/64GB built in storage with a memory card slot that can take up to 200GB.
Speculation as to the rear facing camera is rife. The S7 Edge features a 12 MP camera. This is a drop down from the S6’s 16 MP camera, and the Active model is likely to also feature same 12 MP camera with LED flash.
Stay tuned as we’ll continue to update you on what many are calling the most durable smartphone of 2016 as well as its specs, features, concept, price, preorders, and release date info as soon as we get it.
