The Amazfit Pace is the company’s first watch and was announced at last year’s IFA. The Huami team are the brains behind Xiaomi‘s budget tracker and are now ready to launch get in the business with the likes of Equator, Moonbeam and Arc fitness trackers. The days where you would have to choose between a smartwatch and a fitness tracker are long gone. There are now products that offer the features of both categories of wearables like the Amazfit Pace.
The Amazfit Pace has a good looking design that strikes a balance between sporty and classic which is more than what most smartwatch does. There is a dark ceramic bezel that is both durable and beautiful giving the watch a look of finesse. There is a small physical button on the watch case at the top right edge that serves as a home button and to wake up the device. The button is however inconspicuous and although is a nice thing but proves difficult to locate at times and takes some getting used to to get the hang of it.
The Pace has an LCD touchscreen display which is disabled by pressing the physical button. This is sometimes inconvenient because you have to remember to press the button before you can interact with a notification, start a workout or do anything else on the watch aside from checking the time. There is a 1.34-inch transflective colour display with a 320 x 300 resolution, which is high quality by any standard. Such an impressive display at such price is impressive and is visible indoors even with the backlight off.
There is also a comfortable replaceable rubber strap that comes with the smartwatch. This can be replaced by any 22mm watch strap of choice whenever you feel like changing looks. The device can only track four different activities which are trail running, walk, indoor running and outdoor running, however more activity profile is yet to come via a software update.
The Amazfit Pace is equipped with GPS/GLONASS and is capable of tracking pace, heart rate, distance, calories and time. It also records running metrics like altitude, speed, cadence, elevation gain, elevation loss, minimum altitude and maximum altitude. All these data according to Amazfit can be checked through the Strava Run app. The smartwatch is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. There is onboard media storage of 2.4GB for storing music and can then be paired wirelessly to any Bluetooth device for a running without even taking your phone along.
The Pace is dust, splash and water resistant with an IP67 rating for rainy day runs and workout. It has the same ceramic material consistent with the Equator and Moonbeam giving the smartwatch durability and style. Apart from the running features the Pace also has smartwatch features which means you can receive notifications for messages, incoming call, email and third-party apps. The smartwatch is available for $159 and comes in red and black colours. According to Amazfit, the pace can last up to 11 days on a full charge and 36 hours with continuous GPS and heart rate tracking turned on.
