(Updated) How to buy Solo Aspire M for N4,150 (Airtel Users only)

About a week or two weeks ago, Bankole of TechCabal mentioned something of an upcoming collaboration between telcos and smartphone makers in the country to allow subscribers purchase smartphones in monthly instalments, and now we’re seeing this come to life. SOLO Phones has partnered with Airtel Nigeria to give the latter’s subscribers an opportunity to purchase a mid-range smartphone, the Solo Aspire M for just N4,150.

Okay, not exactly four thousand one hundred and fifty naira, but you can get this smartphone now for that amount and balance up in monthly instalments over the next 12 months with the same amount.

However, there are few criteria which you must meet before you can use this offer. First, you have to be an existing Airtel subscriber, and note the word in italics…for those that are already planning to go and register an Airtel SIM.

Secondly, you have to be chosen by Airtel to be eligible to the offer. So how do I know if I’m chosen? You’ll receive an SMS from Airtel asking you to visit the Airtel store or partner outlet closest to you. If you have received this SMS, then you’re qualified and you can walk into any of the Airtel stores and partner outlets with this SMS.

However, before heading to the nearest Airtel store, you have to get certain documents ready to prove your identity as a Nigerian citizen. These documents include:

  • International Passport.
  • Drivers’ License.
  • Permanent voters’ card.
  • National ID card.
  • Utility Bill with your home address.
  • BVN.

And do not forget the N4,150 you’re going to use to purchase the smartphone.

By paying N4,150 monthly for 12 months, you pay a total of N49,800 for the smartphone, which is N10,800 more than its MRP. What’s more, you get to pay the monthly fee via airtime and you get 1GB of data, 60 minutes worth of airtime to call any network and 60 free SMS valid for 30 days, all for free. That’s fair enough, in my opinion.

Solo Aspire M Specifications

Solo Aspire M

The Solo Aspire M has the same specifications, design and features as the recently-released Solo Aspire 4, so I’m guessing that the phone was rebranded for the purpose of this hire purchase.

Here are the key features of the Solo Aspire M:

  • 5-inch HD (960 * 540) display.
  • 1GB RAM / 8GB ROM.
  • MediaTek MT6580 processor.
  • 8MP rear (with LED flash) & front camera.
  • 4000mAh battery.
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

You can get the full specifications list and review of the Solo Aspire M (Aspire 4) here.

    • Try subscribing to the plan first and wait some. If it’s still blocked, visit an Airtel store, preferably the place you registered and ask them to assist you. There’s nothing I can do to unblock it from here.

    • Hi Sulola, you don’t need to wait for an SMS from Airtel before you can purchase the phone again. Simply walk into an Airtel store with the requirements listed above and your N4,150 and tell whoever’s in charge to assist you with the process of registering for and collecting the smartphone.
