Chuwi Hi13: Worthy Rival for the Microsoft Surface 3

To round off the review series on the Chuwi Hi line of tablet PCs, we’ll have a quick review on the Chuwi Hi13 tablet.

If you think you’ve seen it all with the Hi12 tablet, think again. The Chuwi Hi13 comes with a much better 3K 13.5 inch screen to deliver sharper visual images, a faster and better processor, newer GPU among other features.

Design

With the Hi13, you have an all-metal body in a slim and sleek package. Weighing 1080 grams and with a thickness of 9.2mm, the Chuwi Hi13 is lighter than your normal laptop. The all-metal body gives the device a premium look (as it should). The body is designed using a high-precision CNC process that results in an aesthetically beautiful product.

A USB type C port is also included for faster data transfers and faster charging. There are also the usual micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports, a docking port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

At four sides of the tablet, close to the four edges are four audio speakers for an immersive sound experience. I think personally that Chuwi heard the complaints about the audio quality of the speakers on the previous Hi devices and decided to work on it.

Display

A new 13.5 inch display with a 3K resolution is used here. The resolution is 3000 x 2000 giving an aspect ratio of 3:2. The display is crisp and delivers natural and delicate colors for a more realistic visual experience. The screen is large enough to compete with other ultrabooks.

Processor and performance

Under the hood there’s an Intel Celeron N3540 (Apollo Lake family) quad core processor clocked at 1.1GHz. The speed can reach up to 2.2GHz on turbo. The GPU is a 9th generation Intel HD 500 graphics processor that delivers a decent graphics rendering experience. The new GPU according to Intel is said to bring a 70% improvement on performance over the previous 8th generation one. This newer graphics processor is also good at decoding 4K videos and has a turbo frequency of 700MHz.

Memory and storage

Just like its siblings, the Chuwi Hi13 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Storage can be expanded to a maximum of 128GB via a microSD card if the 64GB isn’t enough for your needs.

Operating system

The Chuwi Hi13 comes with a single OS unlike its siblings (that come with dual OS). The Windows 10 OS pre-installed on the tablet offers a full desktop experience to the user. You can use the device in either PC mode or tablet mode.

Cameras

There’s a 2MP selfie camera and a 5MP rear camera on the Hi13. The front camera comes with an auto-adjustment lens for capturing better selfies than other tablet cameras. The rear camera is also decent as it allows for capturing quality photos – although you shouldn’t expect much from it.

Battery

The Hi13 packs a massive 37Wh (10,000mAh) battery which can deliver an average of 8 hours of usage on a single charge. The battery can be fastly recharged via a 24V charger that comes with the device.
