During the IFA 2018, the big technology fair that is taking place in these days in Berlin (until September 5th, ed), Huawei has unveiled EMUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie and has also announced the beta program. EMUI 9 beta becomes available for Huawei Mate 10 / Pro, Huawei P20 / Pro, Honor 10, Honor View 10 and Honor Play. The beta program has been opened for a limited number of users per country.
The most important features of this new update concern the user interface, which appears decidedly more streamlined (fewer menus to pass) with an updated design. This update also provides a new gesture-based navigation system (which differs from Google’s default implementation in Android 9 Pie), but this new control system is not yet available in the beta version. In addition, Huawei has implemented its vision of Google’s Digital Wellbeing with built-in parental controls.
There are other optimizations in the software that supposedly improve performance and “GPU Turbo 2.0”, but at the moment we are not able to say if the performances have actually improved. To understand if Google’s work has been successful, it is better to update the device and evaluate in person.
To be eligible for the beta version, you must have one of the following devices: Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Pro, Honor 10, Honor View 10, Honor Play.
According to what has been leaked online in the last hours, there seem to be only 100 slots available for each country in the official beta test. This is clearly a problem, considering a large number of people who own one of these devices. If you prefer not to wait for the update, the FunkyHuawei.club website has managed to get the beta update for the devices listed: however, there is no guarantee that the update will work properly.
Android 9 Pie is the latest version of the operating system made by Google: the Mountain View giant has released it for a few weeks.
