The Software Development Kit for Augmented Reality of Google, ARCore, has been officially released in its version 1.0. It will allow developers to offer applications with augmented reality experience in the Play Store, as well as supported devices to make compatible with such applications. With the ARCore applications, the devices will have capabilities of – for example – interacting with 3D objects, although this seems to be only the tip of the iceberg.

With ARCore, Xiaomi joins the fever of Augmented Reality

Although Google makes ARCore compatible with the flagship devices of leading brands in the Asian market, it is a reality that Google services do not arrive in the most optimal way to these markets, and that is why ARCore will soon reach China distributed through of important brands in the Asian market such as Xiaomi, Huawei, LG, Motorola, Samsung, ASUS, HMD / Nokia, ZTE, Sony Mobile and Vivo.

The virtual reality marks a hard blow on the table for developers and consumers, so Xiaomi is not far behind, as it will support its ARCore devices and will join the range of devices that will provide an incredible graphic experience product of the interaction between the real and the animated.

The official information confirms the following devices as compatible: “Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL from Google; Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 +, Note8, S7 and S7 edge; LGE V30 and V30 + (Only with Android O); ASUS’s Zenfone AR; and OnePlus’s OnePlus 5. ”

A very interesting detail is that thanks to this distribution in partnership with these brands will allow devices that are not native to Google and services such as Google Play, can enjoy applications of ARCore.

And on the other hand, the less internationalized Asian brands continue their expansion through alliances with heavyweights of the western market, and with the MWC Barcelona just around the corner, the advances are immediate. Be a developer or lover of Stickers on your mobile, the launch of ARCore definitely does not go unnoticed.

  1. ARCore is OEM dependant because in order for it to work correctly the OEM needs to capture some calibration information. Stuff like the position of the camera relative to the position of the gyro on the phone. They also need to run tests on each individual device to get device specific calibration and store it on the device. All of this means that OEMs have to setup specific tests during manufacturing of the phones.
