The African smartphone scene is filled with hundreds and thousands of smartphones of different types and from different brands. Many of these smartphones are pricey and few are what the common man can afford. As for the newly introduced HOMTOM HT26, anyone can purchase it with ease, thanks to its low price tag. The device packs impressive features for less than N20,000 ($53).

Let’s have a look at some of the device’s features under these headers.

The Homtom HT26 is a small compact smartphone with a unique design and body construction. The device is only 135.8mm long and has a special uneven diamond-shaped back plastic cover which enables super tight grip when the device is being held. Homtom calls it an “Anti-Slip” surface.

The speaker grill is neatly carved out at the bottom left corner on the device’s rear. This is a nice aesthetic feature but this only means you would have to turn the HOMTOM HT26 over on the screen for the best audio experience.

On the top, the 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB port for charging the device and file transfer are located.

The HOMTOM HT26 has a 4.5 inch FWVGA capacitive touchscreen on the front and the display is properly covered and protected by a curved 2.5D glass infused with Corning’s Gorilla Glass protection mechanism. This device is best suited for usage by kids and even adults anywhere and anytime. The curved edges goes a long way in improving the device’s overall looks and feel when held in the hands and during usage.

The HOMTOM HT26 is available in several colour options which includes; Blue, Black, Orange, Purple, and White.

Despite being a low-end budget smartphone, the HOMTOM HT26 has the MediaTek MT6737 SoC with four (Quad) cores under the hood. This chipset confers 4G connectivity support on the HT26 and it also ensures fast running of device operations.

Supporting the SoC is the Android Nougat operating system that ships out-of-the-box with the HOMTOM HT26. With this OS, users would enjoy features like Split-screen multitasking, efficient power saving and storage management.

Regarding storage, the device packs 1GB of RAM for multitasking and 8GB of built-in storage capacity. The internal memory is a little bit meagre but this can be expanded to up to 64GB using a memory card in the dedicated SD card slot.

The HOMTOM HT26 runs the conventional dual camera system; one on the rear, and one on the front. The primary camera on the rear is an 8 Megapixels lens with features like Autofocus Face Detection Geo-tagging, Digital zoom, Manual Focus, LED flash light and many others.

The secondary camera on the flip side is a 5 megapixels lens out in charge of taking selfies and making video calls. Interestingly, the front camera features a LED flash which puts it in the perfect position to take images under low and high light conditions.

When the back cover of the device is opened, you are welcomed by a removable Lithium Ion battery. The battery has a capacity of 2,300mAh and can provide up to a day of usage depending on the intensity of use.
