The process of resetting an iPhone 8, X or 11 is different from previous models. Here's how to reset the latest Apple iPhones in the event of a crash or freeze. Uh oh, your nice and expensive iPhone, but it's not working properly. Maybe it freezes or runs too slowly. Whatever the reason, you can reset your iPhone and correct the errors.
When putting the phone into recovery mode, you can try updating iOS to see if this fixes the problem without losing the content and settings. If it works, great. Otherwise, a reset attempts to reset the phone by erasing all the data and installing iOS from scratch. If resetting solves your problem, you can then configure your phone as a new device or try to reset it to its previous state via a backup

How to reset your iPhone 8, iPhone X or iPhone 11
Back It Up
Before a problem appears, be sure to back up your iPhone regularly. This way you can always reset your phone using an updated backup. To do this on your phone, go to Settings> [your name]> iCloud> iCloud Backup> Back up now. You just have to make sure you have enough storage space on iCloud. By default, Apple offers 5 GB for free.
Alternatively, you can back up iTunes and back up your phone to iCloud or your computer. On a Mac with Catalina, however, you should use Finder to back up the phone.
Try a manual restart
If a problem hangs the phone, try restarting normally. Press and hold the side button and the Volume up or Volume down button at the same time until you see the screen with the "swipe to switch off" option. Slide that button to the right until the phone turns off. Wait a few seconds, then press the side button until the Apple logo appears. Swipe to unlock the screen and enter the passcode to access the phone.
Start a recovery
Did you solve the problem with the normal restart? If so, you're good to go. If not, it's time to attempt a recovery. Connect your iPhone to the computer and open iTunes / Finder. On your iPhone, press and then quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and then quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the side button.
You will see the screen with the "slide to power off" option. But don't do anything. Keep holding the side button. The screen will turn black and show the Apple logo. Do not release the side button yet. Finally, a screen will appear with the image Connect to iTunes. Now you can release the side button.
Connect your iPhone to iTunes
Go back to iTunes / Finder on your computer. A message says there is a problem with the iPhone and asks if you want to update or reset. Click Update. You can choose to update your phone or perform a reset. Choose Update again, but if the program says that your iPhone cannot be updated, you will have to reset it to factory settings. Now sit down and wait for iOS to update on your phone.
Unlock your restored iPhone
After the update, iTunes may ask you to enter the passcode on your phone. Swipe up to unlock the lock screen. Type in your passcode and click Retry on your computer.
Rinse and repeat
Now take a ride with your iPhone to see if the problem has been solved. If not, you will have to repeat the initial process but opt for the recovery path instead. Follow the same steps above, but this time click the Reset button instead of the Update button.
Confirm the factory reset
A confirmation message asks if you are sure you want to reset the iPhone to factory settings. Click the button to reset and update.
At the end of the process, you may receive an Activation Lock message from iTunes / Finder, asking you to enter your Apple ID and password. This is a security measure to pass if you haven't logged out of iCloud before resetting your phone. Type your ID and password and click Continue.
Enter the access code
You will probably also need to enter the passcode on your iPhone. You should, therefore, receive a message informing you that your iPhone has been unlocked. Click Continue.
Set up a new phone
On the next screen, you can choose to set up your device as a new phone or reset from a backup. In this case, choose the Configure as new iPhone option and click Continue.
Finalize the installation
Finish the process on your iPhone, choosing to set it up as a new phone. Now put the phone to the test to see if the problem has been resolved. If so, cheers. You can then use it as a new phone or reset it from the last backup to see if it continues to work with all apps, data and settings intact.
