Subscriptions to calendars are a good way to keep up with everything from national or local holidays, to the games of your favorite soccer team. Below we will see how you can subscribe to a public calendar on your iPhone or iPad (which will remain synchronized with the rest of equipment and devices through your iCloud account): everything you need in advance is in the calendar file link (ics).

Subscribe to calendars on your iOS device

First of all, keep in mind that if you want to keep a calendar subscription synchronized on all devices that you have registered in your iCloud account, you must subscribe to it from your Mac. To do so, open the Calendar application in macOS and select File → New calendar subscription, enter the calendar URL to subscribe and then select iCloud from the Location menu.

I clarify this, to subscribe to a calendar on your iPhone or iPad device, you just have to follow the following steps. In this example, we will do it with the calendar of holidays in the UK. You can use the URL to choose other countries.

  • Start the Settings application on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Press Accounts and passwords.
  • In the Accounts section, select Add account.
  • Press Another.
  • Under Calendars, touch Add subscribed calendar.
  • Paste the calendar link in the Server field.
  • Click  Next, in the upper right corner.
  • Use the Description field to give the calendar an easily recognizable name, although as you see in the screenshots, it is normal to appear by default.
  • Enter the username and password of the server if necessary (in most cases you can skip this step).
  • Touch Save.

And if what you want is to delete a subscribed calendar:

  • Start the Settings application on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Press Accounts and passwords.
  • Click on  Subscribed calendars
  • Touch the calendar you want to delete
  • Select  Delete account, at the bottom of the screen
