LED Notification

LED notification light is not to be confused with ambient light display. Although both have to do with notification but are two different things entirely.

In the case of ambient light display, your phone, whether locked or unlocked lights up as soon as you get a notification. The whole screen comes on so as to help you see the new notification. This might or might not lead to numerous pocket dials if you phone isn’t locked.

While in the case of LED notification light, the screen stays off. The only thing that blinks is the LED Light. The LED light can blink different colours depending on the notification and type of customization you’ve done.

If you own or have used a Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus you would have notice the blinking LED Notification light at the top of the device. The LED Notification that blinks different colours indicates that you have a new notification. Be it a BBM message, Whatsapp message or even an email message.

You can also customize and designate a unique colour for a contact. Lets say the standard notification colour is blue. You can designate the colour green for you mom so whenever your phone rings, you can just look at the LED notification light which is pretty visible from a not so far distance and know who’s calling. LED Notification lights like every other feature on the smartphone has its pros as well as it cons. It can help you keep track of a conversation and let you know when you have a message, email, missed calls and alot of other things.

It alerts you by continuously blinking as soon as a notification comes in. This is particularly awesome for people that deal with time sensitive information and would like to respond quickly. It is no doubt a life saver for some people but can be distracting for others.

  2. Open the menu or app drawer.

  3. Locate and click on “Settings”

  4. Scroll down and click on “Sounds and Notifications”

  5. Scroll down and select the “LED indicator”

  6. Toggle the on button to off.

Voila! No more blinking LED Light whenever you get a notification. Remember that turning off the the LED notification light means shutting down the light for all notification on your device.
