Huawei Nova 3 VS Huawei Nova 3i: what’re the differences? Huawei is back with two new smartphones; Huawei Nova 3 and Huawei Nova 3i. Both phones look similar to the Huawei P20 Lite, which is also known as Huawei Nova 3e in China and Malaysia. The Nova series is like an affordable series of Huawei, similar to what their sub-brand Honor stands for. The Nova series gives users who can’t afford Huawei’s premium series (P and Mate series) the chance to still use their technology.

Speaking of Huawei’s technology, both the Nova 3 and Nova 3i features the new GPU Turbo technology. The technology is also available on a special edition of the Huawei Honor 10, which is known as Huawei Honor 10 GT. Without wasting much time, let’s see what differentiates the Huawei Nova 3 from the Huawei Nova 3i.

The design of the Nova 3 and Nova 3i is exactly the same as the Huawei P20 Lite. The only difference is top-notch on the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i is longer than the top-notch on the Huawei P20 Lite. The top-notch on the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i house a dual front camera with other sensors. The Huawei Nova 3 features a front and back 3D glass gradient body with an aluminum frame. Whereas, the Huawei P20 Lite features a front and back 2.5D glass gradient body with an aluminum frame.

The dimensions and weight of both Nova smartphones are the same. They measure 157 x 73.7 x 7.3 mm in dimensions and weighs 166 grams. They both feature a dual rear camera system placed at the top left corner in a vertical direction with the LED flash underneath it. There’s no home button on both Nova 3 and Nova 3i, so their fingerprint sensor is rear mounted. The Huawei Nova 3 is available in five body colors option; Black, Blue, Gold, Red, and Purple. While, the Huawei Nova 3i is available in six body colors option; Black, Blue, Red, White, Yellow, and Dark Blue. Both the Nova 3 and Nova 3i features GPU Turbo technology and 3D Qmoji.

The display is pretty the same on both Nova smartphones. The two Nova phones feature a 6.3 inch IPS LCD touchscreen with an 84.2% screen-to-body ratio. The display sports a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution and 409 pixels per inch density.

The dual rear camera of the Huawei Nova 3 is the same as the one on Huawei Honor 10. It consists of a 16MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 24MP secondary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. Whereas, the dual rear camera of the Nova 3i is similar to the one on the Huawei P20 Lite. Consisting of a 16MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP secondary sensor.

Up front, both Nova phones are equipped with a dual front camera on the notch. The cameras sport the same 24MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. The cameras of both devices are well equipped with AI-assistant.

Underneath the Huawei Nova 3 is the in-house Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset. The chipset also powers the Huawei’s premium phones like Huawei Mate 10, Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro. The Kirin 970 chipset on the Nova 3 comes with an Octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz and Mali-G72 MP12 graphics processing unit. While, underneath the Huawei Nova 3i is the new Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset, which was manufactured by Huawei to rival the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset.

Both Nova smartphones run on EMUI 8.2 user interface overlaid on Android 8.1 Oreo. The Huawei Nova 3 comes with a 6GB memory and 64/128GB internal storage. Whereas, the Huawei Nova 3i comes in two memory options; the 4GB memory with 128GB internal storage and the 6GB memory with 64GB internal storage.

The Huawei Nova 3 receives power to perform from a non-removable Li-Po 3750 mAh battery. While the Huawei Nova 3i receives power from a non-removable Li-lon 3340 mAh battery. The Huawei Nova 3 supports fast battery charging 9V/2A. While the Huawei Nova 3i supports fast battery charging 5V/2A.

Huawei Nova 3 VS Huawei Nova 3i – The Price

The Huawei Nova 3 will be sold for around $438 (€376). While the Huawei Nova 3i goes for around $336 (€289). The difference in price is about $102 (€88) and that gives you a better camera, hardware, memory and battery life. Definitely worth going for the Huawei Nova 3 if you ask me.
