There are several (read: a lot!) of manufacturers out there steadily churning out laptops on a daily. Regarding technical specifications, some of these laptops are of the highest of quality, some are mediocre, and many, nothing to write home about. Moving on to price, the same story applies. Some are super pricey and carry exorbitant price tags. It is however understandable if they sport features that correlate with their prices. As you would agree, any laptop adorned with amazing, unique specifications and accompanied by an affordable pricing is very much welcomed in almost all part of the world.
It is in that "quality for less money" light that we introduce the iLife ZedAir 2, the latest craft from the coffers of US-based laptop manufacturing experts, iLife Technology. With previous products like the iLife ZedAir and iLife ZedAir Mini making waves and garnering positive feedbacks in over 43 countries across all continents of the globe, the iLife ZedAir 2 would definitely be no different.
Let's have a look at what iLife is offering this time with the ZedAir 2.
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
Whenever brands set out to release an upgrade to a device or product, it is at least expected that slight modifications (read: improvements) are enacted unto such upgrades design and aesthetic-wise. It is however disappointing (and also not) that iLife retained the same build on the iLife Zed Air 2. While it would have been more power-tripping to see a new design and architecture on the iLIfe ZedAir 2, it is still laudable that the laptop didn't lose that one feature that made majority love it the most - slimness!
Just like we said its predecessor (iLife ZedAir) was slimmer than the average empty wallet, the iLife ZedAir 2 is no different in such thickness regard. The laptop is only 16.2mm. A paper-thin laptop is the joy of major PC users as no one loves being weighed down by heavy laptop on the back when carried. However, much cannot be said about the weight of the iLife ZedAir 2 as next to no information was provided on the manufacturer's website about the device's weight.
On the exteriors, available openings/ports on the iLife ZedAir 2 include three USB ports (one on the right, 2 on the left), a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right side, micro-HDMI port also on the right and the microSD card port on the left.
Like other iLife laptops, the ZedAir 2 is available in 3 different colour variants; Silver, Grey and Gold.
As ditto mentioned, the iLife ZedAir 2 shares the same dimension with the ZedAir. Therefore, it comes with the same screen size as the pioneering member in the ZED family. The laptop sports a 14-inch screen with a not-too-exciting 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. The display's quality may not be anywhere near that of the best laptop out there but it will definitely serve you well in High Definition (HD) when watching movies or playing games on the device.
One other attraction of the screen is that it is a capacitive touchscreen. So, on days where your fingers are tired and you would love to give your hands some mouse-break, the screen is there to serve as a means of navigating and controlling operations on the iLife ZedAir 2.
The iLife ZedAir 2 is powered by Intel's Celeron processing unit. The device only comes with two cores (quite disappointing) but interstingly, iLife claims the cores can clock up to a speed of 2.4GHz; even though it has a base frequency speed of 1.1GHz. Comparing it to previous versions of ZED laptops from the brand, the ZedAir 2 doesn't seem like much of an upgrade.
There was however an increase in the amount of RAM when compared to other laptops in the ZedAir family. The iLife ZedAir 2 has 3GB RAM and only 32GB of storage capacity; of which some built-in apps have taken up some percentage. Owing this laptop requires you to invest in buying an external Hard Disk Drive with a reasonable capacity.
Now the concept of the iLife ZedAir 2 being an upgrade gets more confusing here. The battery capacity of the laptop was downgraded massively and comparing it to previous iLife standards, it really is a disappointment. The ZedAir 2 comes with a 4,800mAh battery and going by reviews of some users, the device can only run for some minutes past 4 hours on battery juice. This is reasonable to some extent, but way below iLife's standard. When compared to the iLife ZedAir's 10,000mAh battery, you'd wonder what the rationale behind the battery cut is/was.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
It is an already established fact that iLife prides itself as the manufacturer of some of the world's best cheapest laptops. The iLife ZedAir is however no black sheep as it follows in the step of other iLife's laptop. The device is cheap and affordable. It only costs about $160 (equivalent to NGN 57,600 in local currency).
Just like every other laptop, the iLife ZedAir 2 doesn't have it all. The device is a budget laptop and if you are on a tight budget and you need a laptop to handle some petty officer tasks, then the iLife ZedAir 2 is a good choice. This laptop cam also serve as a perfect buy for your kids for either learning, play or fun purposes.
And although the memory properties of the ZedAir 2 is mediocre may not satisfy your storage needs, an external storage is available to solve such problem. It may not be the best laptop, but it solves some problems and is a good buy at its price.
