Infinix launched the 2017 iterations of its high-end smartphone series, the Infinix Note 4 and Note 4 Pro about a week ago, and I must say that the publicity dedicated to the launch event, and the smartphones themselves, is less than what was done last year for the Infinix Note 3. In fact, the difference between the Note 3 and the Note 4 is not so much, but for the benefit of those wondering which to go for between the two, I’m making an Infinix Note 4 vs Note 3 comparison.
The real improvements and new features are present in the higher variant, the Note 4 Pro, but there are a number of reasons for you to choose the Infinix Note 4 over the Note 3. These are discussed below.
Infinix Note 4 vs Note 3 – Differences
It has always been part of the Infinix Note series to sport big screens, even as the Note 3 debuted with a 6-inch display, but things have changed this time around; the Infinix Note 4 comes with a 5.7-inch display. It is protected with 2.5D curved glass while the Note 3 has no form of default screen protection. It’s sad not to see the Note 4 come with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The display of the Note 4 is clearer, thanks to its 85% NTSC colour gamut and 1300TBD contrast rate which help it beat other smartphone displays in its category. It has a 386ppi pixel density as compared to the Note 3’s 367ppi pixel density.
The Note 3 weighs 1g (199g) less than the Note 4 which weighs 198g. The difference is negligible, though.
The Note 4 sports an 8MP camera at the rear while the Note 3 has a 5MP front camera. Infinix cameras are quite good, so even the 5MP camera on the Note 3 will take care of your basic selfie needs. The added quality guaranteed on the Note 4’s 8MP camera can’t be ignored, however.
The Note 4 also has a LED flash accompanying its front camera while the Note 3 comes milder with a soft LED flash.
A 4300mAh battery provides power for the Note 4 to run on, while the Note 3 actually has it bigger with a 4500mAh battery. The specs are quite close, so I’d say the quality of the battery would depend on the OS and processor optimisation, so we might actually see the Note 4 perform better in this regard.
One thing that stopped me from purchasing the Note 3 late last year was the absence of 4G LTE network capability on the phone.Thankfully, that has been fixed on the Note 4 which is compatible with more than five 4G LTE network bands.
At the time the Note 3 was launched, Android 6.0 Marshmallow was the reigning Android operating system, so the Note 3 ran on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The Note 4, however, comes with the latest version of the Android OS, Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It is worthy to note that the Note 3 has received an official update to Android 7.0 Nougat.
