TECHLECTOR’S MARCH TECHPILL  ̶̶̶  ALL ABOUT SMARTPHONES

Hey guys! Happy New Month in advance. We are gradually moving towards the end of 2017 yeah? But there’s still some couple of months to go months really. Let’s just enjoy the moment and think about the year ending some other time. Yeah, before I go any further, I’d love to ask – Who else thinks 2017 is on that Usain Bolt P? The year is on that gear 6 right now, probably in my view only.

Anyway…

You read the February Edition of our Monthly TechPill right? Please tell me you did. Please just whisper that “yes” into my virtual ear beside you right now. If by chance you missed the dose of our monthly pill, I’m seriously pissed at you. Shows how much disloyal you are. Anyway, good news. There’s a shot at redemption…only one shot by the way. Go back and have a read. Go feed your eyes, mind and get healed. Here’s the February prescription.

As the leading tech blog in the country right now (yeah, we are! winks), we wouldn’t want you going into the new month blind-eyed. In such enlightenment vein, we have concocted this pill (TechLector’s March TechPill) with tasty and soothing organic ingredients to ease your tech transition into the new month in compos mentis.

This month’s TechPill will have its focus on smartphones and tablets that rocked our world in the third month of this year 2017.

You ready? Seat belts fastened? Google’s on? Shoe laced? Ties knotted properly? Forgetting your gloves? Wha’ bout your socks? LOL. I’m just playing with you. Let’s get right to it.

LATEST LIST OF BEST SMARTPHONES IN MARCH 2017

This century and particular period we find ourselves existing is one that tens and hundreds and maybe thousands (I said maybe) of smartphones spring out on a daily. This isn’t really surprising because we are living in the era of tech now – the “Jet world” they call it. What is however awestrucking is the actuality that each single smartphone has their individual distinguishing feature.

Starting off…

1. FERO Mobile

FERO Mobile is a mobile company under the MiDCOM group umbrella. MiDCOM Group, a diverse conglomerate operating across East Africa, West Africa and the Middle-East, launched of a range of mobile phones targeted at the African market.

Fero Mobiles has a large number of smartphones, ranging from the budget ones to the high-end and flagship smartphones and also both feature devices and high quality smartphones.

Let’s see some of their devices, specifications, features, availability and pricing. Shall we?

Fero Royale A1

FERO Royale A1
FERO Royale A1

The FERO Royale A1 is a beautiful device with beautiful specs. A 5 inch display with good resolution, nice front and back camera and a massive 5,000mAh battery juice. Other fascinating specs include 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory and Android v6.0 Marshmallow.

FERO AURA 4001 (A4001)

Fero Aura 4001
Fero Aura 4001

Remember we made mention earlier that FERO Mobile had both the low and high-end devices in their archive, right? Well, the FERO AURA 4001 is one of the low-end device mentioned.

The A4001 rocks mediocre specs like 512MB of RAM, 4-inch display with a 480 * 800 pixels resolution, a disappointing 2MP rear camera and a more disappointing VGA selfie shooter. The battery juice doesn’t do much justice to the phone either. Who else thinks a 1300mAh Li-ion battery can’t run the device through the time it takes them to journey the distance between the living room and the kitchen? Well, I think so… even though the A4001 lasts for some couple you of hours. Good news is.. the battery pack is removable.

Why don’t you check out the review page of the FERO AURA 4001 (A4001) and decide if the device is worth it or not. Be the judge and let your verdict be known through the comment box.

Fero Royale X1

Fero Royale X1

When FERO Mobile announced and released the Fero Royale X1, it was not just announced like any other devices of their own, it had the flagship crown on. The Royale X1 revealed great promise when newly released but later along the line, it turned out FERO still had quite some doors of improvement to pass through.

Running on a Quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1GHz, the device’s performance is not hindered by high-end gaming and it also has enhanced multitasking which gives it A+ in this aspect, all thanks to the device’s 3GB RAM.

The Royale X1 comes with a long-lasting battery pack capped at 4,100mAh. One bad side however is the absence of Quick charge technology. It’s a 4100mAh battery for mAh sake, it will take hours to get a full charge without Quick charge technology. Aside this and a few other downs, the Fero Royale X1 is a good start for a flagship device.

Fero L100

Fero L100
Fero L100

The Fero L100 is an exquisite looking device with fine body build, design and finish. The L100 possesses modern features like super-fast 4G LTE connectivity, the most common Android OS on new devices today, Android Marshmallow, and its display has a special glass protection so you don’t have to panic when the phone falls.

The 1.3GHz processor speed ensure sleek and smooth running of the L100 but he 1GB RAM may give room for lagging during operation. The Fero L100 sports 5MP cameras both at the front and the rear, which the company code-named “Power of 5”. An interesting and catchy feature of the snappers is the presence of LED flashes to aid visibility and enhance image quality in low-light conditions.

You can check out the review and analysis of the FERO L100 HERE. Also on the review page are links to purchase the FERO L100 at affordable prices both on various online stores in Nigeria and Kenya.

FERO Pad 7

Don’t be surprised, FERO manufactures tablets too. In fact, the company has more than one tablet in their archive. The Fero Pad 7 tablet is a 7-inch beauty that has a simple structure and build. The display has a resolution of 1024*600 pixels and uses IPS technology to ensure quality colour reproduction.

The Pad 7 is a good tablet. At 7-inch, it is just slightly bigger than some phablets. The display is good, processor is fast and the battery life is amazing.

The Partner Mobile PS2 is, to me, more than a mid-range smartphone but still cant be classified as a premium high-end device. The specs and feaures on the PS 2 are amazing, particularly the cameras. The superb 20MP rear camera together with the LED flash produces beautiful, nice and crystal clear images. The wonderful 13MP selfie camera is also worthy of mention. Although the Elite 15 (E15) runs on a very outdated OS, Android v4.4 KitKat, it still boasts some certain features that makes it worthy of owning. The 5-inch FWVGA display screen has a 480*854 pixels resolution.

I think I’d just leave you to check out the review page of the Elite 15 and see things for yourself.

Partner Mobile E15+

Partner Mobile E15

The Partner Mobile E15+ is the younger version, which happens to be the better version, of the E15. Though better, it only boasts of slight modifications and improvements in the design, storage and display department.

Partner Mobile did a good job with the E15. This device, the Partner Mobile E15+ is proof to the world that they can do better. Great 8MP primary camera, 5MP selfie camera and 16GB ROM.

4. STARTIMES MOBILE

So guys, in the month of March, we decided to go down memory lane a bit and have a look at some of the devices that StarTimes, popularly known for the TV services they provide, offered the world and smartphone market.

Startimes Mobile is a wing of the Startimes Group. StarTimes Mobile is a high-tech company that focuses on mobile phone production, design, development, and sales. The company produces/have produced both feature and smartphones.

StarTimes Solar Note

StarTimes Solar Note

The Solar Note is a high-end smartphone under the Solar series from StarTimes Mobile. With a design that is super appealing to the eyes and a 5.5-inch HD screen beautifully fitted into it, the conclusion that the device is beautiful had to be made.

Running on the old-fashioned Android v 4.4 KitKat and having 3GB RAM as well as 16GB of in-built storage space to keep and store media files and documents, the device runs as smooth as it can.

See the StarTimes Solar Note specs sheet and review HERE.

StarTimes Solar Mini

TechLector's March TechPill
StarTimes Solar Mini

The Solar Mini is a low-end smartphone with old, obsolete, outdated (lend me some more adjectives please) specs and features. These specs don’t make the Solar Mini useless though as it could be taken as a second phone.

The StarTimes Solar Mini is the definition of “petite” . The Solar Mini is small, slim and very cozy in the hand when held. Heavy applications and games may cause the Solar Mini to lag and freeze during usage as the 512MB RAM isn’t enough to handle multitasking likewise the small the 4GB ROM – def won’t give room for storing large files. The internal memory can however be expanded to up to 32GB using an external micro SD card.

Like I mentioned earlier, March 2017 was a month of business for Tecno Mobile. Not long after the OEM released the L9 and L9 plus sometime this month, it released two new devices again to the market. Mind you, the devices aren’t mediocre, they are amazing and have proved to be the product of fine work, not a rushed production.

6. APPLE

The RED iPhones

RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

Apple Inc. painted the month of march RED through the release of the RED coloured variant of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Truth be told, the introduction of a new colour option for customers to make buying decisions from is a good move from Apple. Variety is the spice of life, remember?

In terms of functionality, software and all other internal processes, the RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will function exactly like their Grey and Pink counterparts. The only difference here is the colour.

As at March 24, Apple began shipping to customers who pre-ordered the RED iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. More pictures and prices of the RED iPhones are available HERE

The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) is an exquisite and finely built mid-range smartphone. The device has great rear and selfie camera (13MP and 8MP respectively) as well as a fingerprint scanner.
