MSI GT75VR Titan Pro

MSI GT75VR Titan Pro

While most people will be thrilled by light and slim but powerful gaming laptop, a few don’t mind the extra weight and bulkiness if it guarantees improved performance. MSI GT75VR Titan Pro fits the latter set just rightly.

Coming with a large 17-inch screen, a GTX 1080 graphics processor, sonorous speakers and a powerful CPU; the GT75VR Titan Pro’s heavy and thick build is justified. Nonetheless, when you look beyond the aesthetics of this design and begin to get used to the laptop, you’ll begin to understand how powerful this machine is.

Design

By mere looking at the renders of the Titan Pro one is already convinced that this laptop is a behemoth. The weight stands at a jaw-dropping 10.1 pounds and is 2.2 inches at the thickest parts.

MSI GT75VR Titan Pro Design

As with every other MSI branded laptop, the Titan Pro has the brand’s dragon sigil imprinted on the aluminum lid. Conversely, the bottom part of the laptop is made of plastic. The black chassis is streamlined with glowing red lines along the lid.

Display

The Titan Pro is fitted with a large 17.3-inch screen that supports Nvidia’s G-Sync tech for refresh rate synchronization needed for smooth gameplays – the refresh rate of the display is an above average 120Hz. Due to the wide angle viewing feature of this display, there is no color degradation while viewing from the sides.

The MSI GT75VR comes in two display models; one with a Full HD screen and another with a 4K or Ultra HD one. Sadly though, there’s one downside to this display: it isn’t bright enough. At 276 nits, the maximum brightness level of this screen is below the industry average (285 nits) for gaming laptop displays.

Keyboard and Touchpad

A full-sized island-style keyboard is fitted on this laptop. A good thing about this keyboard is the sufficient spacing between the keys – thanks to the large chassis. There is also RGB per-key backlighting which allows each key backlight to be customized via the SteelSeries 3 Engine.

The touchpad on the GT75VR Titan Pro is large and covers a 4.3 x 2.6 inches area. This ensures that you have enough space for swiping. Besides, two clickable buttons are visible beneath the touchpad. Just separating the touchpad area and the buttons are a multi-colored LED line which can also be customized.

Performance

This is where the MSI GT75VR begins to show itself. The powerful internals of this laptop is a good justification for its bulky nature.

With 16GB of RAM (expandable to 64GB) coupled with Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080 GPU (with 8GB of VRAM) and a powerful Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, gaming on this laptop should be a breeze. With frame rates reaching an average of 65 fps even for demanding titles and on Full HD, the MSI GT75VR Titan Pro is a serious gaming rig.

The Titan Pro has a storage combo that includes a 256GB PCIe-based SSD and 1TB SATA HDD. It is surprising that despite the size of this laptop, it lacks an optical drive. To put the icing on the already sweet cake, the Titan Pro is VR-compatible.

Battery Life

Next, we look at the battery life of the Titan Pro. To put it simply, battery life on this laptop isn’t one of its strong points. Average usage on the battery is about 4 hours, which is very disappointing.

Ports and Connectivity

Moving on, the MSI GT75VR Titan Pro doesn’t disappoint when it comes to connectivity ports. This array of ports includes three USB 3.0 ports – two of them on the right, a card reader, headphone and microphone jacks, HDMI, Ethernet, mini DisplayPort, and ultimately a Thunderbolt 3 port.

Not forgetting, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios are also part of the mix.

Pricing and Availability

The base MSI GT75VR variant will set you back for $2700. This laptop is already on sale and is available on leading stores online. Giving the fact that this laptop is VR-ready and capable of running the most demanding titles, the huge price tag is quite justifiable.
