All Nokia smartphones under HMD Global runs on the pure Android operating system and its free from bloatware. This means you are assured to get fast update to Google’s software.

In this article, we’ll be looking at the Nokia 5.1 with the Nokia 3.1. Both devices are powered by MediaTek chipset and are available at under $300. The Nokia 5.1 is a class above the Nokia 3.1 according to Nokia. But we will know if the Nokia 5.1 is also worth our money more than the Nokia 3.1 after this comparison.

The Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 3.1 looks quite similar in design with large bezels at the top and bottom. Both phones are thick with the Nokia 3.1 measuring 8.7mm in thickness while the Nokia 5.1 measures 8.2mm. The Nokia 5.1 features a fingerprint sensor that’s rear-mounted for security. While the Nokia 3.1 doesn’t, which means you’ve to use pin or pattern as your security. The rear camera and LED flash of the Nokia 3.1 is positioned the same on the Nokia 5.1.

They both feature a front gorilla glass, with the Nokia 5.1 featuring an aluminum 6000 series unibody. While the Nokia 3.1 features a plastic back with aluminum frame. They’re both available in three body colors option, the Copper, Tempered Blue and Black body colors for the Nokia 5.1. And the Blue, Black and White body colors for the Nokia 3.1. Overall, the fingerprint sensor in the Nokia 5.1 makes it a win in design over the Nokia 3.1.

They both come in an IPS LCD touchscreen, which isn’t surprising. While the Nokia 3.1 features a 5.2 inch, 69.4% screen-to-body ratio, an 18:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1440 pixels resolution and 310 pixels per inch density. Well, the Nokia 5.1 clearly beats the Nokia 3.1 in the display, it features a far better display resolution and pixels per inch density.

The front camera of both the Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 features an 8MP sensor, f/2.0 aperture, Wide-angle lens, and Fixed-focus. It’s in the rear camera that you sport the difference. The rear camera of the Nokia 5.1 houses a 16MP sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED dual-tone flash. While on the Nokia 3.1 is a 13MP sensor, f/2.0 aperture, autofocus and LED flash. The Nokia 5.1 is proving to be a class above the Nokia 3.1 so far.

You can get the Nokia 5.1 for about $233 (N81,550). While the Nokia 3.1 goes for about $175 (N61,250). The $58 (N20,300) difference gets you a fingerprint sensor, better display, camera, and hardware. It’s pretty much worth going for the Nokia 5.1.
