About ten days ago we talked about the extraordinary results of OnePlus 6 in terms of sales: the top of the range of the Chinese company, launched for a month now, has practically tripled the figures of its predecessors, OnePlus 5 and 5T. Success among other deserved considered both the high-level hardware and software support that OnePlus has always been able to guarantee its users.
Eye, though: the latest update, released at the end of last week, OxygenOS is causing quite a few problems. More specifically, in the support forums, battery-drain reports are wasted, accompanied by others that also report other device malfunctions.
To begin with, the “incriminated” version is 5.1.8. The discomforts, as mentioned, concern an abnormal consumption of the battery in certain situations, but it is also the general autonomy that seems to have dropped a lot. Many users also report that during the charging phase sudden shutdowns occur (usually when the percentage reaches 50%), but sudden drops are dramatic without any “intensive” use of the smartphone.
At the moment there has not been an official position taken by the young Asian producer. It must be considered, however, that the ever-active OnePlus community seems to have identified the problem in the new energy management system when the display is active.
In theory, in short, considering that these episodes of battery drain are happening with the update of OxygenOS 5.1.8 on OnePlus 6, the resolution of the bug could be around the corner even if no official communications have arrived. Knowing the effectiveness of the OP development team, it is reasonable to imagine that a repairer update could be released by the end of the month. For the moment, therefore, the advice is to wait a few days before performing the software update on OnePlus 6 despite the notification of ‘ update to 5.1.8 available via OTA should now be reached at all.
