Razer Phone VS Samsung Galaxy Note 8: what’s your preference? Every company has their target audience when a product is manufactured. The first similarities between the Razer Phone and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset that powers them. The body design of the Razer Phone is totally different from the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The Note 8 features a bezel-less display that takes up a majority of its front. Whereas, the Razer Phone features sizeable bezels at the top and bottom with a rectangular screen. At the back of the Razer Phone is the company’s insignia with a dual rear camera at the top left corner. Razer moved the fingerprint sensor of the phone to the side. While the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and dual rear camera also.

Ironically, the Razer Phone is slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The Razer Phone measures a thickness of 8 mm with 197 grams in weight. While the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 weighs 195 grams and measures 8.4 mm in thickness. Razer could care less about body colors for their gaming smartphone. The Razer Phone is available in only a Black body color. While, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is available in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Orchid Gray, Deep Sea Blue and Star Pink. The Star Pink body color is exclusive to the Taiwan market.

In terms of durability, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is fragile has it features a front and back glass with aluminum frame. While the Razer Phone features an aluminum unibody. Razer concentrated more on the hardware features of the smartphone than its overall design. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features an S-pen (Stylus pen).

The front screen display of the Razor Phone is a Corning gorilla glass 3. While on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the newest Corning gorilla glass 5. The Razer Phone packs a 5.7 inch IGZO IPS LCD panel with 72.7% screen-to-body and 16:9 aspect ratio. Whereas, the Note 8 packs a 6.3 inch Super AMOLED panel with an 83.2% screen-to-body ratio. The aspect ratio of the Note 8 is at 18.5:9.

In terms of display resolution, you have a 1440 x 2960 pixels with 521 PPI density on the Note 8. And 1440 x 2560 pixels with 515 PPI density on the Razer Phone.

Not only is the Razer Phone and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 rocking dual rear camera, they also feature the same dual 12MP sensors. While the camera has been tested and trusted by DxOMark as it scored a total of 94 points in their camera ratings. The camera of the Razer Phone should still challenge it well enough.

For selfies, both smartphones feature an 8MP front-facing camera. On the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, it comes with a f/1.7 aperture. While on the Razer Phone is a f/2.0 aperture.

Underneath both devices is Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and Adreno 540 GPU for the graphics. The Octa-core processor on both smartphones clocks at 2.35GHz.

Running on both smartphones is Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The Note 8 features Samsung experience interface on it. While the Razer Phone features Nova launcher. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes in a 6GB memory with 64/128/256GB internal storage. Whereas, the Razer Phone comes with an 8GB memory with only a 64GB internal storage. Though there is a microSD card slot to store up to 512GB of data. The dual-SIM model of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 can also use a microSD slot in its SIM 2 slot.

The Razer Phone will cost you around $699 (N244,650). While the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 goes for around $740 (N259,000). Both smartphones are pretty solid at their available price. For gamers, the Razer Phone is the ideal smartphone as it comes with cool gaming features. While an ordinary smartphone user might prefer the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
