The Redmi K20 has finally been released and it claims to be a flagship killer 2.0 and from the looks of it, the phone will have different names in different markets across the world. According to some rumors, the phone will be launched as the Poco 2 in India. However, a new confirmation came in saying that won’t be the case.
Some pictures of billboards were shared on Twitter by the global VP of Xiaomi and head of Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain. The pictures reveal that the phone’s advertising campaign has already started and the phone will be known as the Redmi K20 in India.
The whole campaign of the Redmi K20 is aimed at the original flagship killer, OnePlus. As you can see from the photos, the positions of most of the billboards are close to an existing poster with Robert Downey Jr and his OnePlus 7 Pro. Using this, the promo for the K20 is having a neat wordplay as it claims to be Starkly Superior To The Latest One, a nod to RDJ’s role as Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist better known as Iron Man. The poster features One written in the same font as One Plus uses for the “One” part of its logo. Clearly, the creative department of Xiaomi really outdid itself this time.
In terms of the phone itself, a photo of a retail box of the Mi 9T was leaked online and it confirms that the phone is pretty much the one with the Snapdragon 855 chipset (or its cheaper alternative with SD730), a triple camera setup on its rear and a pop-up selfie camera.
When the Poco F1 hit the markets last year, it came with a price tag of INR 22,000 and we expect the K20 to have a similar one. If we can trust the conversion rates, the Redmi K20 could come with a starting price of INR19,999, while the cheapest Redmi K20 Pro should cost at least INR25,000.
