The name of Galaxy Watch is now official. Samsung is expected to unveil a brand new smartwatch this summer.
Earlier this week, there were rumors of a successor for Samsung’s Gear S3 watch. The leaks evoked a new name, that of Galaxy Watch instead of the usual Gear series. This has just been confirmed by an official deposit from Samsung.
No more Gear S4, but a Galaxy Watch for Samsung? This new name seems to indicate either a new start of the brand or the arrival of a new range that would not put aside the classic Gear S. We have no more information but with such a name, we can already make some assumptions. Indeed, the Galaxy appellation at Samsung only concerns devices running Android. This could mean that the next smartwatch would welcome Wear OS, the “reboot” of Android Wear.
However, the previous models run under Tizen, a system that works well and is perhaps even more readable and easy to handle than that of Google … But for a catalog of apps and wider services, the choice of Wear OS makes more sense. It would not be a first: Android and Android Wear were integrated into the Galaxy Gear and Gear Live releases respectively in 2013 and 2014. If you do not remember, it may not be worse!
In addition to this new name, the leaks evoke a battery of 470 mAh, the measurement of blood pressure, some new features and perhaps the Bixby button. We will know more in a few months, certainly for the IFA in September 2018.
