Samsung Galaxy S9: Review
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is undoubtedly the most talked about smartphone this first quarter of 2018. With the photographs of the device officially released yesterday, showing how beautiful the Galaxy S9 is. The Galaxy S9 from Samsung will officially be available for sale for $899 in March after the Mobile World Congress. One of the highlights of the device is the 12MP rear camera with f/1.5 aperture. There’s been lots of hype around this device, but is it worth it? We’ll find out in a minute.
Not much difference in design with the S8, although the fingerprint scanner is now under the rear camera. The dual-LED flash is now beside the camera to the right, just like every other smartphone these days. It sports an overall aluminum frame which was designed to perfection just like its predecessor.
The flagship is stunning and beautiful, covered with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which reflects light magically. It supports dual-nano sim, Samsung Pay and IP68 certified as well. Offering dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meter for as long as 30 minutes, it measures 8.4 mm slim making it comfortable to hold as well. The Galaxy S9 is available in Silver, Black, Gold, Blue, and Purple.
Seeing the pictures, you might begin to think it has more bezels than the S8, but that’s not true. The bezels on the S9 has more reduction than its predecessor, reaching a 84.2% screen-to-body ratio. Boasting of more screen than the 83.6% screen-to-body ratio on the Galaxy S8.
The 5.8-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is simply breathtaking, boasting of 1440 x 2960 pixels in resolution. The details and clarity on the screen is everything, with 568 pixel per inch density. Overall the screen is protected by another Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for rigidity and durability.
Hardware and Software
The beast behind this beauty is the Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm with Octa-core processor. The processor on this baby reaches a clock speed of 2.6GHz for fast performance. It boasts of a 10nm process technology and 64-bit CPU architecture.
No improvement with the RAM space, it still comes with a 4GB RAM for multitasking and fast app launching. In terms of storage, there’s a standard 64GB of internal storage space upgradeable up to 256GB. Another good thing about the Samsung Galaxy S9 is that it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
Definitely the highlight of the device is the 12MP rear camera with f/1.5 aperture. With a much reduced aperture than any smartphone on the market right now, it will take the best of photographs. The camera boasts of a 1.4 µm and Dual Pixel PDAF, capturing 4K resolution images with less effort. It comes with a dual-LED flash beside it, while other features will also help capture 4243 x 2828 pixels image.
The video resolution is up to 2K, easily record videos with 2160pixels @ 30 frames per second. At the top bezel, there’s an 8MP selfie camera with f/1.6 aperture for the best selfies taken with a smartphone. For videos, you can also record 1440 pixels of video and perform dual Video Call as well.
Powering the Samsung Galaxy S9 up is a 3000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery, with fast battery charging and Qi wireless charging feature. With Samsung fast charging feature, it shouldn’t take more than 1.3 hours to charge the device from 0% to 100%.
