Galaxy J7 2016 edition smartphones are beginning to get upgraded to Android 8.1 Oreo in some countries. This is the second time that Samsung is releasing a major update to a Galaxy J series device.
News has had it for a while that this will happen and now for about a few weeks or so, the update has begun. While some may have gotten their update around the end of October, it seems that some users are just getting their updates in the month of November, 2018. Actually, Samsung said previously that the update was to begin in the month of November.
However, the Galaxy J7 2016 Oreo update is not widely available yet. Even for those that receive the update, complete Android Oreo firmware for the device is not available at the moment. Nevertheless, it is unclear if Galaxy J5 2016 edition will also get an update to Oreo soon. According to reports, if sales statistics is the sole reason for the update to Oreo, then it may just stop short at Galaxy J7.
That cannot be ascertained at the moment. The Galaxy J7 2016 edition Oreo update is based solely on Android 8.1 and it comes with Samsung Experience 9.5. Accordingly, the software version is J710FXXU5CRJ8.
If you own a Galaxy J7 2016 edition and you are interested in updating, go to Settings >> Software Update menu on your phone and check if it applies to your device. Mind you, this update is heavy. It is around 1GB in size so be prepared to save some big space in your phone if you don’t have much for now. Also, make sure that you do it over a strong Wi-Fi connection for the download to run smoothly.
When will your phone get an update to Android Oreo?
That question is being asked by many people. At this moment, talk about Android 9 Pie is rife and a handful of device already use that. The good thing to know is that all major smartphones released in 2017 should be able to update to the second latest Android before this year runs out.
