Once again Samsung has proven that they can do better than last year as they finally unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge flagship devices. The two flagship device is not about reinventing same phone as the previous Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, but to refine them. The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will make you rethink what a phone can do.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge parade a pleasant design. It is 142.4 millimetres long, 69.6 millimetres wide and has a thickness of about 7.9 millimetres and weighs 152 g (5.36 oz) but does not show off any rounded corners as sported on its big brother S7 Edge. The display is protected on the front with Corning Gorilla Glass (unspecified version). The Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S7 measures 5.1 inches and has an HD resolution, which most likely is 1440 x 2560 pixels with a pixel density of 577 ppi. Galaxy S7.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is fitted with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with an impressive resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and an amazing 534 pixels per inch display density. It has the same streamlined curves seen on the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Streamlined curves offer perfect grip and a slimmer feel without compromising a big immersive screen.
It is about 3 millimetres wider and 9 millimetres longer than the Galaxy S7, while showing off an ultra-thin profile at a thickness of just 7.7 millimetres which is a bit thinner than the Galaxy S7. It also adds a few grams to bring the mass to 157 g (5.54 oz).
As for the internals, both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge run Android v6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system and are powered by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 (quad-core 2.15GHz + quad-core 1.6GHz processors) and Samsung Exynos 8890. Both devices have inbuilt storage of 64GB, 4GB RAM and packs a 3000 mAh/3600 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery.
Both phones have a 12MP rear camera which is lower than ones seen on the S6 while the front-facing camera is pegged at 5MP. Samsung says the new camera can focus up to three times faster thanks to its dual-pixel system that allows every single one of the 12 million pixels to act as focus pixels, similar to the system Canon uses in some of its DSLR cameras.
It also features a wide aperture of f/1.7. Shoot in the dark and own the night with larger pixels that capture more light for brighter photos. The new Dual Pixel technology allows great low-light photography and blazing fast auto-focus.

You see, both devices have dust and water resistance IP68 certification, which allows for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes at a time. The S7’s waterproofing includes sealed ports, so there are no fussy port covers over the USB ports or headphone jacks. The S7 does not use USB Type-C, but sticks with the traditional Micro USB port. Samsung says this is because Micro USB retains compatibility with the Gear VR headset released last year, and that USB C isn’t quite ready for the mainstream just yet.
Good news is that Samsung has finally re-introduced SD card slot on the two flagships and it supports up 200GB external storage. They have also made it convenient for you to leave your wallet at home because Samsung Pay is now available virtually anywhere you can swipe or tap your card. It’s easy to use and secured by Knox Security.
We have no info yet on the price of the two phones. When available, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge price in Nigeria is expected to range from N200,000 to N250,000 depending on your location in the country.
