Earlier today Sharp announced that it would be bringing the Android One project to China with its latest Android device the Sharp Aquos 507SH.
The Android One project is a bid by Google to bring Android devices to emerging mobile markets by partnering with local OEM’s and quite some countries have experienced the project.
Here’s a small list of Android One devices and their target countries. Nigeria (Infinix Hot 2), India (Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1 etc.), Indonesia (Mito Impact, Evercoss One X), Pakistan (Q mobile A1).
Sharp Aquos 507SH Display & Design
The Sharp 507SH is a compact device measuring a mere 142 x 71 x 8.8mm and weighs 135g. The device comes in a sandwich like a package with a gorilla glass screen on both sides of the device and a nice looking metal frame in the middle.
The device is dust and water resistant with an IP58 rating meaning that it can go beyond 1m underwater for longer than 30 minutes.
The display is Sharps very own IGZO LCD with 720p resolution, With a beautiful 2.5D glass finish that gives the device a very premium look.
Operating System & Camera
The Sharp Aquos 507SH runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and shouldn’t have to wait long for the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The device like most Android One smartphones runs stock Android.
The phone is equipped with a 13MP primary camera which record’s videos at 1080p and a 5MP selfie camera.
Sharp 507SH Processor & Memory
Like most Android One devices the Sharp 507Sh is not using the most powerful processor on the block but still the Snapdragon 617 is quite formidable. There will be 2GB of ram and 16GB internal memory with the option of expansion via SD card slot.
Battery & Connectivity
The phone will come with the surprisingly large 3,010mAh battery too. It’s Quick Charge enabled to boot (though it’s sold with a regular 1A charger).
The Sharp 507SH has wireless connectivity via a Japan-only “1-Seg” wireless digital television broadcasting and be accessed through a special antenna cable that comes with the handset.

It is a well-known fact that Android One is designed to be for extremely low-cost phones, it would be natural to assume the 507SH will be priced reasonably. While the actual amount has yet to be announced, the phone is on-sale via the same carrier that sold the Nexus 5 for ¥80,352 which is about NGN 224,251.14 (enough for one plot of land) in October 2015.
