The Sony Xperia XZ3 has been launched and it has Sony’s first ever smartphone OLED display. Although this is the newest and the first from Sony, it’s not the only one around. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium is also a flagship phone from Sony that was launched in 2018. This device also packs impressive specifications and features on the inside.

Since they are both equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 845, you’re likely to find similar performance in each. However, the amount of RAM on each varies. On the spec, both phones are blessed with 64GB which is upgradeable up to 512GB.
Both the Sony Xperia XZ3 and the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium follow the Sony’s new Ambient Flow design, however, there are some differences found. For example, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has a 16:9 aspect ratio display which gives it some seriously chunky bezels at the top and the bottom. You can’t compare this with the curved look on the Sony Xperia XZ3. The screen which is curved into the body reduces the bezels on both sides, which further reduce the top and bottom bezels. Both phones are IP68 certified for both water and dust.
Been the first Sony smartphone to come with an OLED display, ditching the IPS LCD displays in the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium, the phone, however, will bring deep inky blacks and bright vibrant colors. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has an astoundingly sharp 4K resolution which will also deliver vivid colors. For now, it will be difficult to tell which one will bring more sharpness.
Whether the Quad HD+ resolution on the XZ3 or the Premium’s 4K resolution on the XZ2 Premium. This should be a personal decision, but what we know is that the XZ3 packs the best screen ever around the world and ever seen on an Xperia phone.
The Sony Xperia XZ3 has a single camera of 19MP on the rear for photography, while the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium packs dual cameras of 19MP + 12MP on the back for photography. The main camera on the Sony Xperia XZ3 will take stunning photos and it also shoots 4K videos as well, however, you can’t match this with the duo on the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium. For selfie, both phones have the same front-facing camera of 13MP which is for video calls as well.
Both phones will almost offer the same performance, but since they are shipped with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has 6GB of RAM against the 4GB on the Sony Xperia XZ3, it may slightly outperform the later. The Sony Xperia XZ3 is shipped direct with Android 9.0 Pie, while the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has Android 8.1 Oreo with an update to Android Pie coming.
