Tecno Camon CX vs iPhone 7 Design Comparison

Today, I’m going to be doing an interesting thing and something that some might consider as dumb and idiotic, but I bet that by the time you’ve read through this article, you’ll understand its purpose. As the title indicates, I’m comparing the Tecno Camon CX with the Apple iPhone 7, so many of you might be wondering, WHY? Why compare one of the best smartphones in the world with one produced with an Africa-focused Chinese OEM relatively unknown to most of the Western world? The reasons are contained in the next paragraph.

There is no doubt that the iPhone 7 is the overall better of the two smartphones, but the Tecno Camon series were made with the photography aspect in focus, so the latest member of that series should be able to compete favourably against a phone released last year in the photography aspect.

Therefore, I’ll base this comparison more on the camera aspect to find out which smartphone is the king of selfies and pictures. The table below would point out the differences in the other sections.

Tecno Camon CX vs Apple iPhone 7 – Device Comparison

Here is a table of contents to make it easier for you to breeze through the article. Click on any of them to jump to the content:

Display & Design

The Tecno Camon CX takes the lead here in terms of display size and resolution, featuring a 5.5-inch display with a Full HD (1920 * 1080) pixel resolution. The Apple iPhone 7 lags behind with a 4.7-inch display and an HD (1334 * 750) pixel resolution. The Camon CX’s display is clearly superior.

The iPhone 7’s display is, however, protected to withstand falls and water spills. It is covered with 2.5D ion-strengthened glass which is coated with oleophobic material, thereby protecting it from being stained from substances like oil and fingerprints. The Camon CX has just a 2.5D glass covering.

In terms of design, the two smartphones are sleek and well-designed, and I must say I’m impressed with the Camon CX’s design which is several times better than last year’s Camon C9. The iPhone 7, on the other hand, has a sleek and beautiful design, but the design language is somewhat the same as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5, so I’m not really impressed.

Performance & Storage

Here, the iPhone 7 takes the lead with its super-fast quad-core A10 Fusion processor with a speed of 2.34GHz which makes it the fastest smartphone in the world right now. It has the same 2GB RAM as the Camon CX and comes in different storage configurations, ranging from 32GB to 256GB.

The Camon CX is powered by a MediaTek MT6750T processor which is powerful enough to run any app you want, and multi-task effectively. It has just 16GB of internal storage and can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

Here is where the real comparison lies. The Camon CX sports a 16MP camera at the rear with a ring flash (quad-flash) system which brightens up your pictures. The iPhone 7 sports a 12MP camera also with a quad-LED dual-tone flash system. iPhones have been known to take superb images even with a lower camera sensor, so only a camera test would confirm which is better.

The front camera on the Camon CX is 16MP, more than double the 7MP camera at the front of the iPhone 7. Selfies taken with the Camon CX are brighter and better, thanks to its dual LED flash system which the iPhone 7 lacks at the front. Let’s take a look at selfies taken by the C10 and the iPhone 7 side by side, you being the judge on which is better.

As you can see, the Camon CX produces better and brighter selfies than the iPhone 7. Or which do you think is better?

The Camon CX’s camera app also comes with many custom filters to make your selfies even better.

Battery & Charging

The Camon CX packs a 3200mAh battery which is enough to last you through a day on average use, while the iPhone 7’s 1960mAh battery capacity should last for more than half a day, given the battery management track record of iPhones. Both come with fast charging technology.

Software & Hardware

The Tecno Camon CX runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, which at the time is the latest version of the Android OS. The iPhone 7 runs on iOS 10.0.1 out of the box which was the latest version of the OS when it was launched and is upgradeable to the latest version at any time.

Both smartphones possess fingerprint sensors, the Camon CX’s located behind the rear camera module and the iPhone 7’s embedded in its physical home button.
