Last week VIVO officially launched its new flagship, which comes with numerous innovations. Vivo Nex brings a full-screen design, a popup camera, a biometric sensor under the screen, customized software with Artificial Intelligence, and many more new features and innovations. But people need and ask for more, now Vivo seems to want to show us more.
Yesterday, it was announced on the Chinese social network Weibo that Vivo will demonstrate its new technology at the GSMA MWC Shanghai 2018, which will be held from June 27 to 29 at the Shanghai International Exhibition Center. This new technology is called TOF 3D camera.
TOF (Time of Flight) means flight time, it’s basically an optical radar system, which is quite different from the structured light system used on Apple, and the Xiaomi Mi 8, being the first time on an Android device. In addition to better face recognition and faster recognition, distance recognition can be improved. What’s more, it is not necessary to face being in front of the screen to start the scan.
The TOF is a method of measuring the distance between the sensor and the object, based on the time difference between the emission of the signal and its return to the sensor, after reflection in the object, in this case, the face of the user.
The TOF does not use the scan as a measurement, it means that the total capture is captured only with a simple movement of light, unlike the point-to-point laser. TOF cameras capture the entire scene in 3D with a delicate image sensor, so there is no need for moving parts.
In addition to the advantages described above, the general module of the TOF camera will not be very wide, and it will be possible to avoid some confusions of alignment at the hardware level. Given the speed of Vivo to introduce new technologies in their equipment, this technology can be used in the near future, in a brand flagship equipment.
