Vivo is really setting new benchmarks for future smartphone design and also showing other big guns how it is done. The Apex’s FullView technology is out of this world, reaching an astonishing 91% screen to body ratio, the highest thus far. Want to know more about this breakthrough in technology? Stay with me.

Vivo Apex

A beauty to behold, the Vivo Apex sports an Aluminium Alloy overall unibody that’s covered exquisitely in glass. There’s no rear fingerprint scanner anywhere at the back, only the Vivo logo at bottom corner. At the top left corner, the iPhone X-like dual vertical rear camera is visible with dual-LED flash.

But unlike the iPhone X, Vivo Apex comes with a 3.5mm jack which is underneath and a pop-up selfie camera at the top. By the sides, it measures just 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 185g. The device was announced in black, no words yet if other colors will be rolled out as well.

Turning over to the screen that’s one od the highlight of the device, a bezel-less beauty with the world’s highest screen-to-body ratio. The screen boasts of 91% screen to body ratio, which is the highest in the world. With the half-screen in-display fingerprint scanner, you can place your thumb anywhere on the bottom corner of the screen to unlock it.

The screen has no top bezel and very tiny bottom bezel, so tiny it couldn’t even house the selfie camera. The 5.99-inch QHD+ OLED capacitive touchscreen boasts of 1080 x 2160 pixels in resolution and 403 pixel per inch density. Dishing out an 18:9 aspect ratio and has LED notifications as well.

Hardware and Software

Behind this beast is the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip with 8-cores of processor. The Octa-core processor reaches a clock speed of 2.8 GHz with 64-bit CPU architecture and 10nm process technology. In the graphics department, the Adreno 630 graphics processor is fully in charge.

In terms of RAM and internal storage, there are two versions. The standard one with 6GB RAM for multi-tasking and 128GB internal storage space. A cheaper variant comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage space. The RAM space on both versions reaches a memory speed of 1866 MHz, while the storage space is upgradeable up to 256GB. The Apex runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Vivo Apex

The pop-up 8MP selfie camera is really innovative, leaving room for a full bezel-less display. When you switch to the selfie mode, the camera pops-up in 0.8 seconds and goes back inside when you switch to the main camera.

At the back, the dual rear 24MP + 8MP camera is crystal clear, capturing 4K resolution images. The shooters come with a dual-LED flash and other quality features ready to take photos with 4320 x 2880 pixels in resolution. Take videos of 2160 pixels at 30 frames per second, 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second and 720p at 120 frames per second.

Powering the Vivo Apex is a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, it shouldn’t take more than 1.8 hours to fully charge up the battery from 0% to 100%.

From a technological standpoint, why is it so difficult to remove the bottom bezel? I’m totally fine with some sort of bezel on the top and would prefer it over a center notch, but why can’t the bottom bezel be removed?
The design of this phone is nice but the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S renders look much better than this.

Great one
