The 2018 FIFA World Cup is underway, the tension begins to grow, and you certainly do not want to miss a minute. How can you be sure to see every shot, tag, and goal even if you are not in front of a TV? The easiest way is to watch live streaming on your phone – and here’s how wherever you are.

Use a VPN

The first thing you need to do is download a VPN. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and in technical terms, allows users to send and receive data on a public network as if they were connected to a private one. Despite this, with regard to the World Cup, what you need to know is that a VPN allows you to connect online from any country you prefer, wherever you are physical, allowing you to go beyond the copyright laws.

Here’s how:

1. Download a VPN app

If you are an Android user, enter the play store and download the Melon VPN.

If you are an Apple user, enter the app store and download Tunnel Bear which offers you 500MB of free data.

2. Connect with a UK IP

After downloading the VPN, select a UK IP to log in online. This is because BBC World Cup matches are only accessible by UK residents – by connecting with a UK IP, you are “tricking” your device into thinking they are actually in the UK.

3. Go to BBC iPlayer

World Cup matches are available online on BBC iPlayer. You can access it by downloading the app or on the website http://bbc.co.uk/iplayer.

Without a VPN, you would receive a message informing you that the content is only available to users in the UK, but since your device now thinks you’re in the UK, this is no longer a problem. If you have never used the service before, you will need to create a profile. When asked to enter a zip code, you can use W11 EN.

4. Watch the World Cup matches in streaming for free

After logging in and setting up your profile, you can start watching the World Cup games live for free. Note that when you watch a streaming match on BBC iPlayer, there is a 90-second delay – so if you are near a bar that broadcasts the game, you may hear people cheer about a minute and a half before you see the goal on your screen.

Where and when are the games played?

Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last six months, there’s no doubt that you’re already aware of the fact that the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in 11 cities in Russia. Although the decision was taken to play the games only in the European part of Russia, given the vastness of this nation, the games are still played in areas with different time zones. The games played in the Kaliningrad enclave are in the UTC + 2-time slot, the Moscow band is UTC + 3, and the matches played in Ekaterinburg, the easternmost city hosting the World Cup, are in the UTC + 5 band. On BBC iPlayer all games are shown according to the UK timetable.

When will it start?

The tournament started at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on June 14, with Russia against Saudi Arabia. The national team could not have started better, beating their Middle Eastern rivals for 5 to 0. The games will continue until next month until the final, once again at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, on 15 July.

Who will win?

Perhaps favorite NIGERIA could do this business, or it could be the current champions, Germany. What is certain is that it will not be the four-time world champion Italy or the Netherlands finalist in 2010 – none of these big football nations have managed to qualify this time.

Here comes the list of all the satellite TV companies that have broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2018. This list includes countries and territories from around the world. Follow this guide to watch the FIFA World Cup 2018 from wherever you are.
