Xiaomi has literally dominated the various mid-range markets today, thanks to its Redmi series devices. The Redmi series was also made available at a very affordable price, lower than that of the Redmi Note series.
A net success, that obtained by the Chinese company, which attests to its growth not only in “homeland”, but on a global level. The news of the last hours is that one of these products is getting the latest stable update to Android 8.1 Oreo: it is Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, which in the Chinese market is known as Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.
The device was released with Android 7.1 Nougat but is now ready to receive the update that also introduces all the features that refer to Oreo.
Xiaomi has a good reputation for updating its older devices: as early as last June, the Redmi Note 5 Pro had received its stable global MIUI 9.5 ROM based on Android 8.1 Oreo. However, just this “care” towards the Redmi Note 5 Pro had a little agitated the owners of the Redmi Note 5, who feared no more update for their devices. In the end, even if with a little delay, the owners of this device have been satisfied by the Beijing house.
There are a number of reasons that may have caused these devices to receive the update much later than Redmi Note 5 Pro. Most likely it took a long time due to a hardware-related bug, or some software features that have revealed some problems. Or, simply, the update of the Redmi Note 5 was not considered a priority by Xiaomi, at least not on this occasion. Whatever the reason, it no longer matters, since the stable version of Android 8.1 Oreo is already a reality.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is priced around $189.88 on Gearbest.
