We are still very much in the wee periods of November 2018 and one of China’s biggest smartphone manufacturer have introduced two new smartphones to join the already large chunk of their other devices. The two devices, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite are both budget smartphones as they both come with unbelievably cheap price tags and incredible specs.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 was focused more on taking brilliant selfie images (launched with 16 Megapixels front camera) but is also accompanied by other impressive features like a large 5.5 inch screen, 3,080 mAh battery and 4 GB of RAM.
Knowing fully well that the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite is a trimmed down version of the Redmi Y1, let’s see what aspects/components of the device were watered down.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
Per design and appearance, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite is an exact lookalike of the Redmi Y1. The device comes in the exact same colour options (Gold, Dark Grey, Silver and Rose Gold) and dimensions (153 x 76.2 x 7.7 mm) as the Redmi Y1, but weighs a little lighter.
One other noticeable aesthetic difference on this device is the absence of a fingerprint sensor on the rear.
Regarding display and visuals, a 5.5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a 267ppi pixel density. The screen is design to adapt rough conditions like dusty environment and rough surfaces as it comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
PROCESSOR, OS AND STORAGE
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 System-on-Chip which is mostly used on low-end or budget smartphones. Running on the Android v7.0 Nougat operating system, the budget phone uses a Quad-core processor which runs at 1.4 GHz clock speed.
Talking about storage, 2 GB of RAM is dedicated for the task of ensuring smooth running and multitasking of applications. For keeping files and other media documents, there is 16 GB of built-in memory which can be expanded to a maximum of 256 GB using the dedicated Micro SD card slot.
CAMERA AND BATTERY
The primary camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is a 13 megapixels sensor which enjoys a LED flash support and comes loaded with additional features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixels shooter.
The powerhouse is a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 3080 mAh. The battery may take a while to charge because the device lacks the Quick Charge feature.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite will officially roll out for sale on November 9, 2017 and it will cost $104.
