ZTE Blade A5 comes with a unique chipset and with the type of design that would make you think it is a mid-range Android smartphone. It was announced and released during the month of May 2019. In this review, we take a look at the strength and the weaknesses of this smartphone.
Design and Display of ZTE Blade A5
The phone has a compact screen for a modern smartphone. It does come with the kind of display size you see in many newly released phones of 2019. The dimensions are 71 x 146 x 9.6 mm and it weighs 157 grams which is combined with the battery weight, I can also see that the phone does not have waterproof capacity, and comes only in two colors of black and blue. But the plastic design is pretty anyway.
Display features of ZTE Blade A5 include IPS, LCD technology, capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch feature. Screen size in this device is 5.45 inches with 1440 x 720 display resolution, which is also very moderate. Display colors are 16 million and there is no secondary display at all. Going further, pixel density is 295 ppi. Display protection is absent in the smartphone. Too bad.
ZTE Blade A5 has cameras that are moderate. There are two of them, 13 MP to the rear and 8 MP to the front for selfies. The good thing about this area is that the video performance is full HD. Single LED flash is the tech available for this smartphone. Of course, you can expect other nice features from this department as the need may be. There is no spectacular aspect to the camera department.
Hardware and Software
ZTE Blade A5 comes with Android OS 9.0 Pie. It comes with a modified user interface. In addition to that, there are hardware parameters that include the unique Unisoc SC9863A chipset, 28nm process technology with a CPU frequency of Octa core ARM Cortex Cores 8, and the GPU is PowerVR GE8322. All this reflect too common features of mid-range phones, except for the chipset.
Storage Capacity and Sensors
At the storage it very evident there is 2GB of RAM that cannot be increased. However, the internal storage is 16GB and that can be increased to 128GB with a microSD card. However, on the other side, the sensors in this device are proximity, light, and accelerometer.
Network and Connectivity
For this mobile device, 4G is a must. It is good to note that the smartphone works with the following technologies: GSM, UMTS, and LTE. All these manifest varying degrees of good speed while surfing the net. The good thing is; it makes use of two nano SIM cards to carry out connectivity operations. Other network connectivity components are Wi-Fi, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, FM radio, USB 2.0, headphone jack and other components.
- Android 9 Pie
- Compact screen for superb video viewing
- Moderate cameras
- Budget phone
- Not enough colors to choose from
- No NFC, waterproof tech, HDMI, infrared
- Battery is not powerful enough
Powering the chipset is a removable Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery. This phone lacks wireless charging and has no fast charging options. It is not good enough battery when compared to other aspects of the specs. Yet, the manufacturer says the phone is able to have up to 11 hours of music play time. That is possible for a start.
Price and Availability
The price of ZTE Blade A5 is approximately $89. I can’t assure you will get it for that price when you scour online or offline. But for availability, this smartphone is readily available and has been released and is already in the hands of users since May 2019.
